Synopsis: A two-part study in addiction, Heddy Honigmann and John Appel's unguarded documentary offers a glimpse into the lives of three teenaged girls obsessed with internet chat rooms, and elderly drug addicts who have been doing hard drugs for over forty years. The first part, entitled "Emoticons," follows the online journey of tormented student Saskia, lonely poet Sanne, and rape counselor Samantha as they eschew the real world to submerge themselves in a virtual world where they can reinvent themselves any way they wish. "There Goes My Heart" is the second part, in which we are welcomed into group home for elderly drug addicts in the Netherlands. For over forty years, these four men and three women have been hooked on a variety of narcotics. Though the home offers them all a place to stay and a steady supply of free drugs, it's obvious that each of the addicts has lost something significant in their lives. In exploring the addicts' desperate delusion that their lives will one day take a change for the better, the filmmakers get to the raw truth about addiction.     Source: allmovie.com
