Synopsis: Warrenville Prison is an Illinois correctional facility for teenage girls whose age and criminal history prevent them from staying on in juvenile detention. Most of the inmates have been convicted of violent offenses, and fifty percent are repeat offenders. Given the widespread recidivism among Warrenville's population, the prison staff is constantly searching for new ways to help inmates work past the issues that have led them into a life of crime, and in a bid to give them young women a chance to communicate their problems through art, a number of Warrenville residents are given the chance to stage a musical about their lives for the fellow residents. Filmmaker Heather Ross was given permission to make a documentary about the play and the young women who created it, and Girls On The Wall chronicles the creation of the Warrenville musical and focuses on three inmates who are a major part of the show -- Whitney, a girl guilty of a crime so heinous she refuses to say what it is who discovers a gift for writing while behind bars; Christina, who ran away from home to escape her crack-addicted mother and is not sure is she's compromising her principles by accepting an offer to live with a wealthy foster family; and Rosa, who after surviving a childhood full of sexual abuse may not make it through her own violent neighborhood.     Source: allmovie.com
